I'd love to tell you of my "experience" of the Jarvis Estate wines I ordered recently!
In 2004, we travelled to Perth for my brother's 40th birthday, and decided to stay on for some touring of the surrounding regions - down to Albany, round the coast and through the Margaret River area back to Perth. While in Margaret River township, at dinner in the Margaret River Hotel, I randomly chose the Jarvis Estate wine on offer - no particular reason on my part.
But the wine, the most sublime taste I have ever experienced in a red. I enjoyed every drop, and immediately wanted to buy some. "Don't worry" says my husband. "We'll find it back in Perth, in a bottle shop".
I should never have believed him! We travelled back to Perth, and I tried in every bottle shop to buy the Jarvis Estate wine I had tried.
After telling this story with every bottle of red we opened with friends back here in Melbourne, one couple suggested I try the internet to see if I could order some. Happily I took their advice, and recently ordered a dozen "Cab Sav's" and the limit of 2 bottles of the Cabernet Franc.
Even then, a story follows. I generously (and foolishly) gave a bottle of the Cabernet Franc away to a friend, to whom I actually owe much more! That evening my husband and I opened a cab sav, enjoying it immensely, but not quite the taste I recalled.
On the weekend, we opened the other bottle of Cabernet Franc, and I was immediately reminded of the lovely evening we had had last year in Margaret River!
Fortunately, I have been able to purchase 2 more bottles (though would easily have bought a dozen if allowed!). these will have to be saved for special occasions!
