Mintaro Wines

Mintaro Wines produce really excellent wines, so please check them out.
They are a family owned and operated boutique winery situated in the historic town of Mintaro in the beautiful Clare Valley district of South
Australia. The wines are all hand crafted using traditional methods with meticulous attention to detail. Very important to note that
Mintaro Wines
was recently awarded 5 stars by James Halliday, Australia's premier wine expert.
I love their Shiraz. And they are only $20 per bottle
when purchased in quantities of 12 or more. The wine is described as a saddlebag full of fresh picked berries.
The small of leather and horsehair all tumbling along the fruits of the forest. All the provisions for a long ride, but keep
it in the stable for a while longer.

Mintaro Wines will accept 1 bottle minimum order quantities and
and they offer free delivery for orders over $280.

Christmas Special - Monarch of Mintaro Shiraz (2005) $240 per case of 12 - while they last!!

Wine Tips and Notes - Decanting

Did you know that ALL red wines will benefit from decanting? (Even some whites will benefit as well.)
This includes even the freshest and youngest reds. Some of the decanted wines that we have had have been magnifique!

Decanting is the elegant process of transferring your favourite red (or white) from the bottle it has been sojourning (for perhaps years) into a
decanter. A decanter is typically a tall, upright container, with wide bottom, made of glass and can hold one bottle of wine. In the decanter the wine
will spend only a few minutes, or a few hours. In fine French restaurants the process of decanting can carry as much finesse as a Japanese Tea Ceremony.

There are two main reasons for decanting: removing deposits and breathing the wine.

In each bottle of wine there are over a hundred individual substances - wine is indeed a complex product - and the ageing of wine
involves the interaction of these substances to enhance the flavour and aroma of the wine. Also produced by the interactions are
the deposits - the ones you find in the bottom of a bottle a few years old. There are two main substances in the deposits: tartar and tannin.
Decanting separates the wine from these crunchie bits.

The decanting process also lets the wine breathe, breaking down any mercaptans (smelly sulphur compounds) and bringing fullness to the wine.
However too much decanting can be bad for an aging wine, introducing too much oxygen and thus causing oxidising. This is not a good thing!

The general rule is, the older the wine the shorter the time in the decanter, with wines that are over 5 years old being decanted just
prior to serving, otherwise some wines will deteriorate rapidly. Younger wines can spend a few hours in the decanter before consumption.

There you go! I didn't know that every bottle of red could be improved with a decanter. I am sure that they would make a nice
Christmas gift as well. ;o)

Wine Quotes

Here's a wonderful quote that I'd like to share with you:

'Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the
greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.'
-
Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) from his non-fiction book
Death in the Afternoon, published in 1932.

Nice isn't it. Hemingway was indeed earnest with his wine! I wonder what he would have written about the boutique Australian wines he
could have got from http://www.boutiquewineries.com.au/?

That's it for this month. So until next month, enjoy the last few weeks of the year, enjoy your wine, and relax, it's Christmas time!Jeremiah
