Tingle-Wood Wines lies in the Scotsdale Valley near Denmark on the West Australian south coast. Planted in 1976, this estate has the distinction of being the first commercial wine farm in that area.
Small grounds
Despite its glowing reputation and success over the 32 years it’s been operational, Tingle-Wood is still one of the smallest wine estates in the Great South Wine region. They wouldn’t have it any other way since it gives them the advantage of producing wines that are both rare and always of excellent quality.
More attention
The Great Southern wine region is renowned for its strong red wines and tasty Riesling. Although Tingle-Wood Wines has been praised for their Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz dry blends, it’s their Riesling that continues to cause a stir in the wine community. For a relatively small winery, Tingle-Wood’s wines make as much of an impact as the wines from the bigger farms. Smaller grounds translates into wine-makers lavishing more attention on each vine, all of which are still hand-pruned.
Resounding Riesling
Tingle-Wood’s first vintage appeared in 1980 and ten years later, their Riesling outshone its competition to take home the Sheraton gold medal. The following year it bagged first prize as best Riesling at the Mount Baker Wine Show. With the guidance of the winemakers at West Cape Howe, Tingle-Wood Riesling is produced both as a dry wine and as a late harvest.
