When asked what made Lovegrove Vineyard and Winery wines stand out from the rest, estate owner Stephen Bennett said that they showcase the traits of Yarra wines while still offering something individual and rare. Previously home to an orchard and kilometres of bush in the Yarra Valley, the Lovegrove winery is 30 years old and continues to produce excellent quality wines.
Best known
Lovegrove’s lands are situated near the Kinglake Ranges and are watered by the Diamond Creek, a tributary of the Yarra River. The climate there moves between cool and temperate with cold, wet winters and dry, warm summers. The Bennetts cultivate vineyards of Chardonnay, Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Merlot. Lovegrove is especially well known for its Quest Cabernet and Petillant Methode Champenoise.
Diversity
Stephen Bennett is also the principle winemaker and describes his style of winemaking as earthy and non-commercial. The Yarra Valley is known for its crisp, clean whites. The Lovegrove Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs uphold this tradition, described by experts as refreshing and zesty. Besides the standalones and blends, Lovegrove also produces a semi-sweet autumn-harvest Chardonnay, an excellent rosé and satisfying liqueur Shiraz.
Thank you!
The average annual production comes to around 1000 cases, 5% of which is exported to the UK and the Turtle Islands in Fiji. The Bennetts know their wine is brilliant stuff, not so much from the accolades in the wine community, but more from the thousands of thank-you’s accumulated over the years.
