At Lost Valley Winery, it’s all about excellent quality through hands-on winemaking. They describe the winemaking process as “painstaking and by hand”. The award-winning wines that leave the estate reflect the care and dedication lavished on every bunch harvested on their property.
Situated in the high-lying regions north of Melbourne, the Lost Valley vineyards stretch on over 15 acres. High-country weather can be extreme at times, but the Lost Valley vines are sheltered by the north-facing slopes and enjoy cool temperate weather. The King Parrot Creek flows through the property and feeds the plantations of Shiraz, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Cortese, a rather unique white Italian grape variety. Lost Valley is widely known for their Cortese wines – in fact, they’re the only vineyard outside of Cortese’s native Piedmont region in Italy to successfully cultivate Cortese wines.
Winemaker Alex White is internationally known as one of the world’s leading wine experts. When making Lost Valley wines, he is involved at every level of the process, from the planting and monitoring of the vines to the processing of the grapes. This allows him to create the kinds of wines that rake in the awards at every show Lost Valley enters.
Lost Valley Winery produces around 5000 cases a year across all its varieties. Half is exported to the United States, the UK, Canada and Hong Kong. Besides the local acclaim, Lost Valley Wines have made quite an impression in the United States too. American distributors count it among Australia’s top boutique wineries. Wine critics like James Halliday, Robert Parker and Jeni Port delivered glowing reports on Lost Valley’s wines, particularly the Cortese and Sauvignon Blanc.
