Writing wine reviews means a lot of things to a lot of people. Not just the person doing the wine review but those employed at the vineyard and the buyer themselves. On the Boutique Wineries website you’ll find lots of wine reviews, so let’s start there.
Just tap in www.boutiquewineries.com.au whether you know which type of wine you are looking or you need some advice you will be able to use the search facility. If you’re looking for inspiration search by featured wines, food match or wine characteristics.
So, your search results are back, but there are still hundreds to choose from so where do you start? Well, a good place would be at the top and work down, are there any names that you recognise, is there a grape which you particularly like? Make yourself a shortlist.
The short list perhaps isn’t that short, so now you need advice and that’s where the wine review really comes into its own.
The wine reviews are written by different people, some experts others who have an interest in wine. Click on the wine you’re interested in and underneath the picture you will see a series on tabs, one of those tabs is called EXPERT REVIEW. This is what you’re looking for. The wine review gives the reviewers name, the publication and the year along with the review itself. Some of the wines may not have a review so if you’re interested there might be a job out there somewhere!
I think one of the best ideas is to do wine reviews yourself. Vineyards who are interested in selling their wines always welcome visitors for tasting’s. It’s probably not a good idea to do more than one in a day. What’s better than getting involved in the whole experience, seeing the grapes, visiting the cellars and maybe even seeing how the wine is made, rather than just the sipping the wine and then having to spit it out.
Maybe get together with friends and learn about the vineyard as well as the wines they produce and form your very own wine review circle.
I think we’ve concluded that a wine review is a good place to start, the reviewers are experienced and can compare one wine with another but it’s also important to remember we don’t all like the same things in life.
What’s better than taking a recommendation and then writing your own wine review, what do you think?
